One owner and only 5,500 miles.

Because it is the top of the range, US-spec Airbag Model it also has ABS, the Honda/Garmin Navi system (with European Maps) , heated grips and seat, hot air foot warmer flaps, the Premium, 6 speaker, 80W per channel audio system (more powerful than the UK equivalent) and the uprated 1KW alternator. It is also fitted for (but not with) the Hondaline CB radio, which can therefore be installed very straightforwardly by plugging into sockets which are already built into the bike’s wiring loom.

The bike is dripping with accessories, most of which are Hondaline or Kuryakyn, as listed here:

Add On Clear Lenses Front Turn Signal Set

Any inspection welcome; the bike is in the North West of England.

The accessories amount to about £5,000 worth, so the asking price is a very considerable saving on the cost of a UK-spec 2010 model bike, which would also have been manufactured in 2008 (before the US Factory closed down) with the additional advantage of the extra features and “plug and play” connectivity of the US-spec model. The bike is ready to go as soon as payment is made. The owner is selling purely in order to buy another US-spec GL1800 of a different colour.

£18750 ovno

Nigel Simpkin was offering his 1994 Model GL1500 Aspencade for sale because he moved to France and took it with him, only to discover that he cannot register it there.

Click on the image for an enlargement

The bike was first registerred in UK in 1997 but it’s a 1994 Model Year GL1500, US-specification Aspencade in Pearl Atlantis Blue, which is a greeny-blue colour. Nigel thinks there are less than a handful of GL1500s of this colour in UK and he might well be right because Pearl Atlantis Blue was not released as a GL1500 colour in UK.

Three models of GL1500 were sold in the USA: the Interstate, the Aspencade and the SE. The Aspencade has the all-important reverse gear and an audio/intercom system, and this bike is fitted for (but not with) a CB radio, so unlike UK Model GL1500s it can be fitted with a Hondaline CB radio, if you can find one. (These CB radios are now quite hard to come by, best bet being EBay in the USA.)

Click on the image for an enlargement

Nigel’s bike also has:

Panasonic 6 disc remote CD, linked with an Autocom system including handsfree for a mobile. (And this Autocom system may create additional optioins for connecting a CB and other devices too.)

Tyres are Bridgstone with no more than 1000 miles since fitting (but they are at least 5 years old).

No significant corrosion to underside, new exhaust tail pipes fitted.

Genuine luggage for top box and panniers + Rack bag for extra capacity.

Tow Bar with electrics (Single Point) – Power point in Top Box.

Chromed rotor covers removed for a new home-made ring of fire (Never made, but all led’s and resistors + tubing is included)

Rider’s Backrest

New Chromed belly pan. also never fitted.

New brake & clutch reservoir lids to allow for extra switchgear (All Included)!

Only known fault is on rear or riders seat, 2 small nicks in the leather? (Possibly an aborted attempt to fit some sort of back rest by a former owner?)

General condition of bodywork is very good and excellent for age.

An all weather custom made cover also comes with the bike.

An Optimate charging system is included.

Haynes and Clymer manuals also included.

Also included with the bikes comes:

2 x Weise M/C Jackets with armour and detachable winter linings.

2 x Weatherproof leggings with “Goldwing Braces”.

2 x Overboot spray covers

2 x Over gauntlet mitts

2 x “West Coast” open face helmets

2 x Open face helmets(Currently fitted with mikes & earphones)

Price: Nigel is hoping for £4,750 but will listen to offers.

The Bike has been laid up in France since June 2005 but has been started up and run up to temperature regularly. It should be available to view in the Leeds area after March 22nd, when it’s coming home to UK to be given a new MOT. It has only 26,000 miles on the clock and old MOTs to back this up.

This bike has been sold.

The GoldWing Executive was a special edition of the GL1000 sold only in UK and only 51 bikes were made.

These bikes were commissioned by HondaUK which arranged for a batch of standard GL1000s to be specially adapted by Rickman (a British firm) iincluding special fairings and other accessories and for the bikes to be specially finished in black with gold coach-lining. Each bike was numbered and they were sold through Honda Dealers in UK only.

This bike was first registered in 1977 and is painted as Number 19 of the series of 51.

It has done 45000 miles. The frame has been powder coated. The tank panels, radiator shrouds, side panels have been resprayed to original black and gold pin striping by Dream Machine.

New front and rear chrome mudguards. New exhaust pipes. All this work carried out when I acquired it in 1987, but has been kept in garage under cover and looked after.

The bike has not been on the road for six years but it still starts and runs.

It needs someone who can give it a good home and look after it.

Price: Offers over £2,000

Castle Motorcycles, the Honda Dealer in Castleford, North Yorkshire, are currently offering a selection of three red GL1800s, all of which are airbag models and they are all well below the list price for a new one.

One of them is a bike loaned by HondaUK to the Organisers of the 2008 Blackpool Light Parade, for use by the Central Florida Motorcycle Drill Team.

The three bikes now at Castle Motorcycles are likely to be identical in specification, differing only in date of registration and mileage. These range from late 2008 and 1,500 miles (the ex-Display Team bike) through early 2009 and 1,000 miles to late 2009 and only one delivery mile, so this one is a new but pre-registered bike.

If you are looking for a red GL1800 GoldWing de luxe, as this model is now officially called in UK, all these bikes represent very good buys.

The ex-Display Team bike for sale in Castleford

The 2008 bike, which is definitely one of the four new red GL1800s which came to Blackpool because the registration number tallies, was used by the Team Captain, Randy Rodriguez. It’s a real bargain at under £15,500.

This is all but £6,000 or nearly 30% off the current list price for this model, which is £21,451. From its mileage as advertised by Castle Motorcycles, it has done very little since it went back to HondaUK last September, a couple of hundred miles at most.

Still showing Blackpool scars?

The 1,000 mile bike is an extra £1,000 and the as-new one is another £2,500 on top of that, but still £2,500 below the current list price for a new one.

Is there any reason to avoid the 2008 bike, because it was used by the Display Team? I don’t think so. It was ridden by a real expert and although the lower cowl still bears the scrape marks to show for the extremely skillful (and extremely tight) turns he did during display routines, only very superficial damage to the paintwork was ever done.

Bill Squires and I went over all four display bikes very carefully before they were returned to Honda and we thought we had touched up all the scrape marks on the lower cowls with silver paint. But either we didn’t do a very good job on this one or, much less likely, someone else had been scrapping it around right hand corners since then.

Seen here being ridden by Randy (left) during a Display Routine in Blackpool

If you want a bargain – and also a bike which has an interesting bit of history to it, which you brag about if you want to, this is your chance. If I didn’t already have a 2008 model GL1800 in the garage I would buy this ex-Display Team bike myself.

Many of the good used GL1800s for sale in UK have been snapped in recent months by dealers from mainland Europe because their Euros have had such terrific buying power. Don’t hang around if you want to buy one of these bargains; despite the recession they’re reported to be still at it!

The ramp ride is wide and strong, making for easy ride-in loading

These trailers are plenty big enough to take a Wing but light enough (with Wing on board) to be towed by a motorhome or a large car. The trailer itself weighs about 900 kg and a Wing weighs no more than 450kg, so you will be comfortably inside a typical motorhome’s towing capacity of 1500kg. The trailer can of course carry far more weight than this if the towing vehicle can cope, so with a bigger motorhome you can carry lots of booze back from the Continent as well as your Wing!

The rear of the trailer can also be opened as doors

A new trailer to this specification would cost nearly £4,000 including VAT, so at £2,500, fitted out ready to take a GoldWing, this one is very good value. The owner paid £2,800 for it a few months ago and then spent more money fitting it out. For example the rear steadies are extras.

The trailer is located in Lancashire and the Owner is Geoff Thornton. He can be contacted on 07774 141192.
