Scotia Wings – by Robin Cook

Modern Alternative to a Region

Modern Alternative to a Region

Scotia Wings was formed in 2000 by a small group of GoldWing riders centred on Perthshire, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

Our Club is open to owners of Honda GoldWing motorcycles and also to those less fortunate individuals who don’t yet have one but are interested in getting one.

The Club still meets in Perthshire but draws Members from a wider area and over the years has gone from strength to strength.  Scotia Wings has Members from many areas of Scotland including Central, Tayside and Grampian.

Each year there is a busy programme of organised ride outs both home and abroad (not just England!) and we also enjoy turning out for promotional events, weddings, galas, displays and parades.

The aims of the Club are:

  1. to encourage friendship and co-operation between all who own a Goldwing
  2. to encourage by example high standards as motorcyclists
  3. to promote the Goldwing as a way of enjoying the best of motorcycling.

And of course to enjoy ourselves while we’re at it!

Our 2008 our Programme included:

  • Scottish Bike Show, Ingilston
  • Glasgow Easter Egg Run
  • Stirling Car Club
  • Elgin Marafun
  • Lots of places to stop and admire the view

    Balmullo Gala Day

  • Ladybank Gala Day
  • HMS Caledonia Family Day
  • Glamis Extravaganza
  • Kelso Bikefest
  • Edinburgh Festivals Cavalcade
  • Irish Treffen, Co. Donegal
  • British Treffen, Driffield
  • Largs Viking Festival
  • Farming Yesteryear, Scone
  • Pose on the Prom – Blackpool GoldWing Light Parade

and we expect to be every bit as active in 2009.

Raising money for good causes

Over the years we have raised in excess of £15,000 ourselves for various charities including Rachel House Children’s Hospice, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the R.N.L.I.  This sometimes meant some hard work and dedication but we never forget to enjoy ourselves while we’re at it.

We also turn out to support other people’s charity efforts and we provide motorcycle marshalling or escorts for some of them too.

The Emmerdale Experience

The most high profile, and one of the most enjoyable charity event so far was our involvement with the Cast of Emmerdale in their fund raising Events in Aberdeen for the Anthony Nolan Trust and UCAN charities.  These have raised an incredible amount of money over the years.

Independent – but by no means isolated

We are an independent Club and proud of it, but we enjoy friendly relations with other GoldWing Clubs and as you will see from our 2008 Programme we travel to attend some of their events and we welcome other GoldWing Clubs to ours.

We like to think we are a Modern Alternative to being a Region of a national club.  We decide things for ourselves, including whether and how much our subscriptions will be – currently only £12 and this covers all our needs including Club insurance.  And of course we decide how to spend it, so who needs national committee?

Come and say hello!

If you would like to learn more about Scotia Wings please visit our website. Our Club is very active and we are always looking for new members so you are most welcome to attend one of our Meetings, either to join or just to be curious – and you’ll get to pick our brains about GoldWings free of charge too!

As a new Member you get a welcome pack, you can take part in any of our organized events, join runs and you even get to help us raise money for our supported charities too!

Monthly Meetings

We meet regularly at the Glencarse Village Inn, Main Street, Glencarse, Perthshire PH2 7LX,  which is about 5 miles along the A90, East of Perth.  We meet on the third Sunday of the month at 11.30am but there is no February Meeting so the next one will be in March.

Our contact phone numbers are on our Website and you are most welcome to give us a ring if you are in the area, either to enquire about joining or, if you are touring on a GoldWing, to pop in for a friendly chat wherever you come from.

With best wishes to all Wingers for 2009 from Scotia Wings

Just to let you know I have taken over the hot seat with the ScotiaWings Website and we have had a bit of a spring clean and the site is now ticking over quite well.
