Another opportunity for UK bikers to support a noble military cause has been organised for Sunday September 19th at Marne Barracks, Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire.
The Black Rat Fund, a Charity supporting the 4th Mechanized Brigade (various Army units plus 40 Commando Royal Marines) during its 2010 deployment to Afghanistan, so a total of 9,300 serving soldiers, Royal Marines and their families, is inviting members of the biking community from all over the United Kingdom to come and take part in the Black Rat Fund Charity Rideout from their home base at Catterick Garrison.
The Event Venue is Marne Barracks, where there will be plenty of parking space, catering and toilets and also a range of exhibitions by Units of the Black Rats to show off their wares and also to say thank you for the support the Forces have been receiving from the biking community.
Bikes will be sorted into groups to do a circular ride of the Garrison and parts of the surrounding area. The ride circuit is about 22 miles long and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Groups will be riding this circuit all day starting at 10am until 5pm.
The ticket price for each person taking part (whether a rider or passenger) will be only £2.00 with a suggestion for an additional donation of £3, so £5 per person in total unless £2 is all you can afford. You can register on line on the special page of the Black Rat Rideout Website and doing so will help the Oreganisers enormously because you will also then have an opportunity to choose a one-hour time window for you departure from Marne baracks on the ride.
You may arrive as early as you like and stay on after your circular ride as long as you wish to enjoy the displays and facilities , but arriving in good time to get checked in and still make your chosen departure slot will be important. There will be so much going on and so much to see that arriving at least an hour before your scheduled departure slot is recommended. Marne Barracks is well signposted so it should be easy to find.
So, being a military thing, the day is very well planned and organised and there is a mountain of information on the website about the day and about the Black Rats and their Fund. There is even a possibility of an overflight by a Spitfire during the afternoon weather etc permitting.
All registered riders and their registered passengers will receive a free Black Rat wristband which they can wear to show their support for the Black Rats and additional wristbands will be available for purchase on the day too. A souvenir T-shirt can also be pre-ordered on line from the same registration page. T-shirts which are ordered in good time will be posted to you so that you can wear it on the day.
Places are limited so early on line registration is encouraged.
Further information will be released about the details of the event as they are finalised, so please also keep an eye on the Information Updates on the Black Rat Rideout website. These already include listings of local camping sites and other accommodation in case you want to make a weekend of visiting this excellent biking area.

All ready registered and will be doing outrider on the day.
Should be a good un.
Indeed yes, it sounds like a really good day out as well as a worthy cause to support. Unfortunately I can’t make this one due to other commitments but hopefully there will be a good turnout of GoldWings.
Its raining, but who cares, the soldiers go through more than a bit of rain. See you there
Despite the awful weather I encountered during my ride up to the Barracks, the experience of the Rideout was fantastic. The people waving and cheering on route was something I will always remember; the last time I was up there at the Camp was in 1964 when I was in 64/18 intake doing my GMT with the 5th Tank Regiment before I was shipped out to serve with the 13/18 Royal Hussars(qmo). May I wish all our serving troops a quick and speedy home coming to all their loved ones. I SALUTE YOU. SB.
It was a great day, with a good turn out. The weather wasn’t much of an issue, in fact it only rained on our journey home. Did three lots of marshalling over the course of the six hour day.
Saw a few wings taking part, old and new, trike’s and solo’s.
Well done to all those that took part, it will make a big difference to all those involved in 4th Mechanised at Catterick.
It was well worth the trip out in the rain, the atmosphere was fab, great to see the support for the troops from not only the bikers but the public on route and to see the soldiers out in the barracks. a great day !
