Trouble at T’ Mill in Yorkshire and Scarborough?

Tony Walton & John Bates

Tony Walton, one of Yorkshire Wings Joint Reps (i.e. Regional Chairman) suddenly resigned recently without explanation.  Thankfully this turned out not to be a personal health or other problem, merely a tiff with a colleague, and apparently about the running of the Scarborough Light Parade.  Whatever it was it was big enough to cause Tony, one of the prime movers of the Scarborough Light Parade, to take his bat home.

Fortunately it now seems to have been patched up and Tony’s resignation has been withdrawn. This should be good news for the Scarborough Light Parade which is only in its second year and will therefore benefit from some consistency at the helm.  They did well for numbers last year and have reported lots of early bookings now they have followed the Blackpool approach of using a Holiday Centre to provide inexpensive accommodation where everyone can stay and socialise if they wish.

Bookings opened early on the basis of a time-limited discount and 200 hundred bookings have been made. Unfortunately the discount has now ended but the accommodation will still be reasonable value and as Pontin’s has proved for the Blackpool Light Parade, this type of accommodation works well for a late Season gathering of Wingers.

The Scarborough Light Parade is to be held on Saturday 12th September 2009 and will involve a static display (for a charity collection) on the Promenade and a Parade after dark on a circular route lasting about 2-30 minutes. Scarborough ain’t Blackpool in terms of scale and crowds but this Event was well received when first held in September 2008 and a very respectable sum was raised for charity.

The Blackpool Light Parade will also be happening again for 2009 and the provisional date for the Parade is September 5th 2009.  Announcements are expected soon – but don’t try booking at Pontin’s yet, you’ll end up paying Brochure rates!

So if we get another nice Indian Summer again for 2009, as we did in 2008 in UK, you could do a lot worse than plan to attend both Events and stay in the North of England in between to have a touring holiday – the area is absolutely stuffed with superb biking roads, scenery and tourist attractions.

I am please that you still show so much intrest in an organisation taht rejected your memebrship.

Blogmaster: Pleased you’re pleased. But did I mention an organisation? There was me thinking I was writing a news item for the GoldWing Community about a popular Event, and giving it potentially useful publicity in the process. I think you’re capable of better than opportunistic (and as it happens on this occassion inaccurate) bitchy remarks Keith.

What ever gents, comments are as expected. Any chance to have a go at GWOCGB

Blogmaster: Not true Keith, even if you can’t see it.

And od course I apploigicse for my poor spelling, sorry I dont even pretend to be perfect like some here.

Blogmaster: This is the very last snidey personal remark by anyone about anyone which will be published on this Blog! Let’s talk issues and ideas or let’s not talk at all. You really aren’t doing GWOCGB’s standing in the GoldWing Community (or its prospects) any good by making comments like these Keith.

I am sorry if my remarks have caused offence to anyone ……..Sorry…..:-(

Blogmaster: Well said Papa Joe. I certainly wasn’t thinking ill of you but any personally critical comments are best avoided on the internet, tempting tough it may be to respond in kind – and that’s my New Year’s Resolution, to try even harder to resist that temptation during 2009.

Stuart I hate having to disappoint you but the tiff as you put it was nothing to do with the Scarborough Light Parade and certainly nothing to do with this blog. The Light Parade planning is in full swing and there are no problems

Blogmaster: Always happy to be corrected, you haven’t disappointed me in any way and I am delighted to hear that Scarborough 2009 is on track. It was GoldWing News, so it got a mention, and your Event got a mention and a link too. Now what’s wrong with that?

    Stuart.
Whilst i appreciate the free advertising for the SLP i do wonder why you are still going on about the so called rift in the SLP
    organising commitee.
If as you say you would like all wingers to be friends and work towards the same goal then this posting is not helping .
    Tony.

It doesn’t seem to me to make sense to make a big deal about changing yesterday’s newspaper; it’s already history. OK, I guessed wrong about the reason for your resignation but it was a reasonable guess and you chose to broadcast that you had resigned, which made it very newsworthy. Your correction has already been added and if you would like to tell us the real reason why you resigned I will publish that. And if you would like to submit a full scale Article about the Scarborough Light Parade and how wonderful it’s going to be I will publish that too! I was only being just a little bit mischievous to raise interest, honest injun.
